day 121

 Our walk is quickly approaching!  Here is the front of our shirts.. The back will say "we walk for Craig & Madi"...I am super excited for the walk, and to come together and support Craig and madi and all they have gone through this past 9 months!

Our shirt colors are Neon so we made these ductape slap bracelets to match our shirts!

Day 120

today  is a rough one for Craig..He has been a little discouraged with his numbers.. He was in the 300's and just irritated that it may mean we need to change his doses.. He can only have 20 carbs per unit of insulin right now so he doesnt get many "free" snacks..That bothers him.. well he is 13, so everything bothers him right now!!

Today was our diabetes maintenance day.. We gathered all of the meters to make sure they are fully stocked with test strips, lancets, wipes...With 2 kids, busy kids.. with type 1, we have meters here, there and everywhere! In the car, in the house, in backpacks, in baseball bags, in my purse... So periodically we have to locate all of them and double check that they have what they need..

 This is usually what Craigs meters look like...He just puts the used strips to the side so when you open it up, they fall out.. awesome.. typical for a kid in a hurry though:)

Day 119

What's it take???

For a 4 year old to check her glucose just 1 time...
 Wash hands..already done:)

Get the meter out

Get 1 strip out..

Put the strip in the meter..

Grab the lancet..and pull the trigger back..

Poke your finger by pressing the button...

Squeeze your finger to get enough blood out...

sometimes this takes a little work...

awe.. my sweet girl..I know its no fun...

1 drop of blood...

 

Collect blood on the meter test strip...

A little maneuvering..you dont want to miss and have to start over (this does happen!!)

And viola! here you go...

Repeat several times a day.....

Day 118

Today is a good day..
Madi has been running around..she watched the new Tinkerbelle movie, she went to Walmart with me, went to her brothers assembly at school for having all As, she is now playing with her brothers..

Craig went to school, then is heading to the local bowling alley/ laser tag place with a group of friends!
Then he has to have a quick dinner then head to baseball practice!

Its just another one of those busy days here:)

Day 117

Since Diagnosis...

Craig has had at least 2,160 finger pricks
and at least 1,350 insulin shots...

In just 9 months..

So for anyone who thinks this every gets "normal"...it doesnt..

And for Miss madi,
In the past 6 months she has had
at least 966 finger pricks..
at least 552 insulin shots

SO glad they are healthy and thriving kids!! We are very blessed..

We saw this product today and thought it was perfect for Madi!
Its a mini Camelbak! It fits the same amount of water our boys carry, but is just her size!  It would be a perfect item if you have a young Type 1 kiddo and they need to be hydrated  and also have room for their diabetes supplies!! Its also a perk that it comes in pink!
We didnt buy it because it was a little costly for us right now, but I would love to have one for Miss Madi!!! Thinking maybe Christmas:) We'll see. How convenient is this?!
And of course she likes it because its pink!

Our family has 4 of the regular sized Camelbaks for our boys, campouts, Boy Scouts, and for hikes and bike rides ect...
We use them all of the time.
