Day 100..really?? 100 days of blogging!!!

Some people think all my kids have to do is "eat right" and they wont need insulin.. This is completely not true..

If Craig eats an apple for example..he needs 1 unit if insulin.. His body does not make any insulin...So if he were to only eat items with no carbs at all, thats the only way he would not need insulin...But doing this is not healthy.. Our bodies need carbs to grow.  (foods like fruit, milk ect have carbs)
If all he ate was fruit and vegetables, he would still need insulin...

Why?? Because they have carbs in them...

Type 1 Diabetes is not "fixed" by a healthy diet, because as I said, healthy foods have carbs too!!

Here is a list of food items that Craig would need at least 1 unit of insulin before he eats them.. Imagine if he wanted 2 of these items at the same time..or 3..
That would mean 2-3 units of insulin...

1/2 a cup of oatmeal
1/2 a cup of rice
1 tortilla
10 chips
1/2 a cup of corn
1/2 a cup of peas
1/2 a cup of mashed potatoes
1 cup of squash
1 small apple
1/2 a banana
 1/2 a cup of applesauce
1 cup cantalope
1 small orange
3/4 cup of blue berries
1 cup of strawberries
1/2 a grapefruit
12 cherries
1 cup of milk
